The Windows multi-line edit control always shows only whole lines of text - if the control is too short for its font, a TMemo will show nothing at all (a TEdit will show clipped text). For such components, it's better to make them a few pixels too large than to be one pixel too small and show not text at all.

The fact is that it can be used as both, and it has features that are sometimes valuable in either setting. Is OS/2 a desktop system? For many "server-type" tasks, Windows NT serves nicely. and it is too big (>12MB) for a 1993 desktop system. It is too large for the average 1993 desktop system.

Windows doesn't have a true command line - it just has a DOS prompt. I'll agree. I use 11 text consols and 1 X console. Switching randomly between 11 full screen DOS boxes under windows is a pain in the arse. Further to that, you are stuch at 80x25 (best shape, way too big) or 80x50 (too sqyare and still to big)

With todays cost of large Hard drives being low, and the need for LOTS of memory by the software on the market, a 50 meg swap file is NOT too large by any means. Sometimes up to 10 programs opened at once. The disk caching and virtual memory management of Windows 95 seem to be somewhat uneasy bedfellows.

Sometimes NTFS compression can give misleading info ie deleting a very large file takes up less space than expected. I've had this problem on NTFS drives of different makes and sizes, under Windows 2000 Pro and, now, XP Pro on a different system. That's very odd, only 1 thing in common, you. Login as admin.
